PHYTO: Principles for Site Remediation & Landscape Design

PHYTO: Principles for Site Remediation & Landscape Design

Located in historic Sudbury, Massachusetts, this hobbyist farm features a meticulously renovated 1911 house with an addition by Patrick Ahern that complements the original period style. The homeowners sought a design that facilitates entertainment and meaningful land connection. The project includes an expansive pool patio with reclaimed materials, diverse seating areas, a hand-built pool house and pergola, a living room patio with a formal cut garden, and a custom fire pit. A new stone wall frames the patio, aligning with an existing wall. The sunken garden will be revitalized with a new soapstone fountain and privacy plantings. A greenhouse with a matching stone foundation will anchor a fenced-in area with raised beds, compost piles, and a future chicken coop. Gravel tracks from the motor court lead to a hand-built barn, passing through an orchard and transitioning grassland to meadow and enhanced woodland, blending the 6-acre property’s manicured and natural landscapes.
