South End Courtyard

Gallery

This South Boston courtyard reclaims an underutilized backyard as a contemporary outdoor garden for entertaining, dining, and daily life. Stacked brick and bluestone paving organize the site to create a series of outdoor rooms, while eroded edges allow the hardscape to slip into the lush planting. This dynamic paving pattern creates a balanced sense of openness and enclosure to accommodate gathering, circulation, and flexible use. The outdoor dining area is framed by carefully selected plantings and festoon lighting to create a comfortable space. A sleek contemporary shed, horizontal slat fence, and motorized sliding gate work in synchrony to unify the site’s material architectural language while providing privacy and supporting both garden use and parking.
