Calahan Park
GalleryOffshoots led the public design process for the Calahan Park Comprehensive Plan for the City of Burlington Vermont’s department of Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront. Calahan Park is a 19-acre public park that borders residential and commercial properties in the South End of Burlington. To ensure that the park design fully reflected the stakeholders’ goals and vision for their space, the team utilized community questionnaires, focus groups, concept surveys, public meetings, and site tabling to reach as many members of the community as possible.
The resulting comprehensive plan includes community led concepts for proposed accessible paths, amenity structures, play areas, interpretive adventure trails, updated amenities, an expanded community garden, and both passive and active recreation. These areas are balanced with robust natural areas where proposed layering of native vegetation will maximize wildlife benefit and reduce routine maintenance needs in the park.
