Somerville Garden Retreat

Gallery

This Somerville garden ties front and back landscapes together through a series of carefully integrated outdoor spaces that feel closely connected to the house and its architecture. In the front yard, a wood entry deck and steps transition seamlessly into granite steps and curbs that define planted edges and create a more grounded arrival sequence. Native plantings soften these architectural elements and frame the entry with seasonal texture and structure.

In the backyard, a wood deck extends directly from the house to create a sunny lounge space, while permeable granite unit pavers form a patio for outdoor dining and everyday gathering. Fastigiate European beech trees help define the dining area and give the space a sense of enclosure without reducing openness. Beyond the patio, the rear portion of the yard shifts into a more immersive shade garden, where stepping stones move through lush layered planting and create a quieter, more natural garden experience.
