Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Charlestown Waterfront Coalition 2018 Flood Forum on Tuesday! We are excited to share information about sea level rise adaptation and climate resiliency with the community. The presentation is available to download here:

Offshoots CWC Flood Forum Presentation

The presentation includes information on the current sea level rise projections for Charlestown to 2100, maps of flooding scenarios in the Navy Yard and a summary of current resiliency planning efforts by the City of Boston. Kate Kennen of Offshoots presented landscape strategies that can be implemented in the Navy Yard and greater Boston area to address sea level rise and coastal flooding. These strategies included living shorelines, multipurpose landscape berms, strategic retreat, and elevation of new and existing developments. Kate also presented solutions to reduce stormwater flooding, which is projected to increase with climate change.

Sean Riley, PE, CFM of Coastal Engineering Company presented information on FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), current regulations as well as engineered solutions for flood risk mitigation. More information on Coastal Engineering Company can be found here: https://coastalengineeringcompany.com/

Peter Allen of Smart Vents presented an overview of wet and dry floodproofing strategies and and how they could be implemented in the Navy Yard. More information on Smart Vent can be found here: https://smartvent.com/

We hope you share this information on flooding resiliency with your friends and neighbors!
