North Shore Daycare

Offshoots collaborated with a North Shore biotech company to create an outdoor play and learning environment for its on-site childcare center, bringing together ecological performance and child-centered design. The landscape was conceived as both a dynamic educational setting and a welcoming daily play space, with native plantings, pollinator habitat, meadow restoration, and natural play elements woven throughout. A key challenge was designing a landscape that felt open-ended, immersive, and engaging for young children while also meeting strict childcare safety and regulatory requirements. Offshoots approached this balance carefully, using thoughtful grading, durable natural materials, and a resilient plant palette selected for seasonal interest, habitat value, and safety. The result is a vibrant, ecologically rich landscape that encourages exploration, curiosity, and connection to the natural world. By aligning biodiversity goals with the needs of early childhood development, the project reflects Offshoots’ commitment to creating beautiful, functional, and resilient landscapes.
